What are tax receipts for transfers?
Crowded lets you issue an IRS-compliant donation tax receipt for an incoming transaction (like a donated check, wire or ACH transfer), so donors get the acknowledgment they can use for their own tax reporting, and your nonprofit stays compliant with IRS requirements.
Where do I issue a tax receipt for a donated transaction (wire, ACH, check)?
- Log into Crowded on the web platform
- Go to Transactions
- Find the donated transaction you want to issue a receipt for, and click on the transaction
- Scroll to the Receipts section of the transaction detail panel. If no receipt has been issued yet, you'll see "No Issued Tax Receipt" with an Issue Donation Receipt button.
- Fill in the information of the donor (email, date)
- The donor will be sent a compliant donor tax receipt for their donation
How do I specify the donor for the tax receipt?
When you click Issue Donation Receipt, you’ll be able to pick from the organization’s existing contacts or enter in the donor’s information manually.
What information do I need to issue a receipt manually?
First name, last name, email, and the donation date.
What does the tax receipt include?
It includes your organization's legal name, address, and EIN, plus a standard IRS-compliant acknowledgment: a note that your organization is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3), confirmation that no goods or services were provided in exchange for the donation, and a note that the donation may be tax-deductible. It also lists the donation amount, donor name, date, payment method (last 4 digits), transaction ID, and reference number.
Can I see or resend a receipt after it's issued?
Yes. Once issued, the receipt appears as a file in the transaction's Receipts section, where you can preview, download, or resend it.
