What is the On hold balance?
On hold funds are shown beneath your available balance on your Crowded dashboard whenever a portion of your funds is temporarily unavailable.
The on hold balance provides visibility into your available funds. Below are the most common reasons funds may appear on hold:
- Merchant authorization (card hold)
The authorization process is a step in completing a card transaction. During authorization, the merchant receives your information and verifies that the card is valid and that you have sufficient funds to cover the transaction amount.
Crowded cannot prevent the merchant from charging authorized holds. Once the authorization is approved, the merchant may either complete the charge or cancel it depending on their own policy.
If the authorization is not released by the merchant, it will be automatically released after 31 days from the initiation date. Please reach out to the merchant to request additional information about the hold.
- Check Deposit Under Review
Funds from a recently deposited check may be placed on hold while our compliance team completes the review. This is a standard process to help protect your account.
Please allow up to 5 business days for the check to clear. Once the review is complete, your funds will be released automatically.
